DON MCCULLIN, FOTOJORNALISTA

O fotojornalista Don McCullin (Londres, 1935) ganhou fama pelas suas fotografias de guerra e conflitos urbanos, trabalhando mais de 20 anos para o Sunday Times. A guerra proporciona imagens impressivas, como socos no estômago, em quem as vê e em quem as tira. McCullin, como outros fotojornalistas, viu-se amiúde confrontado com a dúvida, devo carregar no botão ou parar e ajudar a pessoa que tenho na mira?

Até que desistiu, afirmando-se cansado da guerra, pouco depois de, em Beirute, uma mulher tentar tirar-lhe a máquina fotográfica, gritando que ele não tinha o direito de fotografá-la, no meio daquele sofrimento. Já este mês, no festival fotográfico de Perpignan, McCullin disse ter vergonha de ser considerado fotógrafo de guerra.

McCullin passou então a 'trabalhar' paisagens e naturezas mortas. Com a mesma perícia.
